Art by Laurel Haslett

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Sometimes it was put on hold while I did other things, such a raise three sons and earn a BA in English Lit. as a mature student at Glendon College. In Toronto l worked as a production editor for a law book publisher, did photo research for an encyclopedia and enjoyed an interesting stint with an all-female film production company. When I moved back to Nova Scotia I reconnected with the art world that I left after I attended the Nova Scotia College of Art many years ago. Over the years I have studied portrait painting, sketched in numerous life-drawing classes and experimented with printmaking. I work in oil, acrylic and mixed media and my latest enthusiasm is learning to use encaustic wax techniques for  printmaking and painting (an ancient art form that interests me).

I have had a solo show, been part of many group shows in Nova Scotia and have had my work accepted for juried shows at The Lunenburg Art Gallery and the Teichert Gallery in Halifax. Quartet Gallery has been my art home for ten years. From there my work has travelled to many parts of the world. I have a small studio at the Mahone Bay Centre where I do most of my painting and printing.
